Best Islands to See in Asia

Published on December 27, 2010, by in Asia.

baliAlthough there are literally thousands of islands to choose from when you travel to Asia, one lifetime would not be enough to see them all. That’s why, as any tourist to the region will tell you, “seeing Asia” is really nothing more than knocking off 90% of the items on your list and feeling guilty that you don’t have time for them all.

But if you want sun, sand and endless beaches while soaking up coconut milk and being massaged then here are some of the best islands you can go to in Asia.

Bali

The number one tourist hot spot for Australians, this is potentially the best reason to go here. You get to meet the hottest guys in the world or the most gorgeous young women ever to grace the planet. And the greatest thing about Bali, is that the good times never end once you are there. Surfing, sun-bathing, climbing vast mountains, visiting ancient temples. You can do everything in Bali.

Gili Islands

The perfect place to go diving and conveniently located right near Bali. If you’ve ever wanted to get your diving license and gone deep underwater to see amazing wildlife and even go pearl-diving, then this is the place you go. Because it’s right near Bali, it’s very prosperous too.

Phuket

One of the most amazing tourist destinations and located in Thailand. It has some of the best beaches in the world. Diving opportunities are endless, the place has quite a few national parks and has some of the most amazing geological features – archipelagos and tiny islands as well as giant rocks.

Perenthian Islands

If rocky beaches and boating isn’t your thing, then consider the Perenthian Islands just off eastern Malaysia. Miles and miles of silver sand, just like the song by Simon and Garfunkel. The clearest blue water in Asia and the perfect place to sleep on the beach in a hammock between two palm trees.

Perhentian Islands- my absolute dream destination (and I am normally not a beach person) – I went there last year and had the islands almost to myself, great snorkelling options. Better do not go there if you get sick on a boat easily, that was the roughest and scariest boat trip I have ever had, but totally worth it:-)
Aha, and make sure you put a big plastiv bag around your backpack, mine was soaked and it took 2 weeks to get my stuff try again…..but still one of the best memories from my trip through South East Asia….
